In an interview with Madame Figaro this Thursday, January 27, Brigitte Macron confided in her five years at the Élysée. The first lady notably returned to certain spats she may have had with the security service in order to enjoy a few moments of peace.
While promoting Operation Yellow Pieces, Brigitte Macron agreed to give some confidences in an interview with our colleagues from Madame Figaro this Thursday, January 27. An interview in which she has still not announced whether her husband was going to stand for re-election, but where she reviewed many themes. The first lady also took the opportunity to confide in the place which is hers with the president. Despite her public notoriety, she has indicated that she wishes to remain in the shadows. “The French did not want me, I am perfectly aware of that”, she admits, before adding that her role was to “find (his) place and help them” within the limits of its field of action.
As the presidential election is fast approaching, she also wanted to take stock of her five years at the Élysée. A period during which she had to learn to pay attention to her different speeches. “I found myself here more patient than I thought. I learned not to speak openly to anyone, anywhere and anytime, which for me is a colossal effort because I speak easily”, explains Brigitte Macron. An extremely rigorous protocol which has sometimes given rise to certain tensions, in particular with the service responsible for protecting it.

“I also learned to live with security. At first, when I was told ‘no’, because I wanted to go out for an errand or take Nemo for a walk, I answered: ‘Well, yes.’ We negotiated, found the modus vivendi. I understand their responsibility, their responsibility too”, continues the wife of Emmanuel Macron, even if she does not hide having used her position to preserve her privacy as soon as possible: “You have to be intransigent. The President also takes this very seriously. An apartment, within the palace, is therefore sanctuarized. No one has access to it, ever. We meet there, alone, for breakfast and sometimes for dinner, when we have no official event on the agenda.”
