Britney Spears has said in court that her father should be “in jail”. In addition, the singer said: “I’m not happy.”

Britney Spears (39) has US media reports testified at a court hearing that her father should be “in prison”. Jamie Spears, 68, took over the guardianship of his daughter in 2008 after a series of public breakdowns. Like from court records which are available from the “New York Times”, it emerges, the singer has been fighting since 2014 to remove her father as guardian. Now she gave a 20-minute statement in front of the court.

“My father and everyone involved in that guardianship, including my management … should be in jail,” Britney Spears reportedly said in a statement to judge Brenda Penny in Los Angeles. “I told the world that I was happy and okay,” said the 39-year-old. “I lied. I’m not happy, I can’t sleep. I’m so angry. And I’m depressed. I cry every day.”

“I just want my life back”

Before the public statement, several documentaries had reported on their situation. In her statement in court, Britney Spears described her experiences under the tutelage and alleged control that her management and father had over their personal and professional lives. This is said to have included that she was allegedly forced to perform. “I’m not here to be anyone’s slave,” she told the judge. “I deserve changes.” Spears also claimed in her statement that she was not allowed to see a doctor to have her IUD removed. She would like to have another baby. With ex-husband Kevin Federline (43), she has two sons aged 14 and 15. Her partner Sam Asghari (27) would apparently like to marry Spears.

The singer called for an end to guardianship and control of her personal affairs. She said, “I’ve done more than enough. I don’t owe these people anything. It’s embarrassing and demoralizing what I’ve been through. I just want my life back. It’s been 13 years. It’s enough.”

Jamie Spears had always declared that he was acting in his daughter’s best interests. His legal team said in a statement that he was sorry to see his daughter suffer so much. There was no judgment in the case on Wednesday. According to the judge, Britney Spears must file a formal motion to end guardianship. Then there could be a decision.
