Bruce Darnell’s show “Surprise! The Bruce Darnell Show” starts on December 2nd on ProSieben. In it he fulfills people’s greatest wishes.
On December 2nd Bruce Darnell (64) starts his own show “Surprise! The Bruce Darnell” Show on ProSieben (every Thursday at 8:15 pm). After a few years at RTL, Darnell returned to ProSieben, where his career began as a juror for “Germany’s Next Top Model”.
In his new show, he would like to fulfill people’s greatest wishes and make them happy with surprises. But not only studio guests are surprised. There are also some moving moments in the show for Darnell himself, as he reveals. In an interview with the news agency spot on news, he tells what his greatest wish is, which wishes on the show touch him in particular and whether the former model could imagine a “GNTM” comeback.
What does it mean for you to return to ProSieben after so many years with another broadcaster?
Bruce Darnell: It’s a great honor for me to be back at ProSieben because it’s a big career boost for me. It’s also great for me emotionally. Because it all started with “Germany’s Next Top Model”, here I was given a large platform. All of this means a lot to me and I am very grateful that they put their trust in me for the new show.
Many fans still remember you today as a catwalk coach at “Germany’s Next Top Model”. Could you envision returning to the show, or have you finished with that time?
Darnell: “Germany’s next top model” was my start into the TV career and it was a great time that I would never want to miss and that I look back on with gratitude. I live according to Franz Kafka’s motto “Paths are created when we walk them”. So now I’m looking forward to another step and my first own show.
How big is the challenge for you to have your own show now?
Darnell: I always wanted to have a show where I can do people good, surprise them and give them courage. I want to give them a positive boost in life. “Surprise! The Bruce Darnell Show” is therefore exactly the right show for me and a challenge that I’m really looking forward to. In this show I can be myself – it’s a show with a heart for the heart.
With “Surprise! The Bruce Darnell Show” you will surprise your studio guests. Were there any wishes that were so great that you could not fulfill them?
Darnell: The range of requests was indeed very large and we received so many letters that we unfortunately cannot meet all of them in the four episodes of the season. Of course, I don’t want to reveal too much yet, just this much: We surprise many people everywhere and in all walks of life. There will be many moving moments both for my surprise guests and for me. For example, we lure unsuspecting people into the studio and they suddenly become part of the show. How cool is that? (laughs).
What was a wish on the show that blew even you?
Darnell: I was touched by a lot of wishes. But most of all it is the human desires that take me away. When someone has a family abroad that they haven’t seen for a long time or want to thank people in a very special way. Then my tears come to my mind.
In your new show you will make your guests’ dreams come true. Do you also play the wish-fulfiller privately with family and friends?
Darnell: Absolutely. I really enjoy making people happy and doing something good for them.
What is your greatest wish?
Darnell: I’m fine when I can live the way I like. Then I am happy and I don’t need big wishes for that.
Your show will be out around Christmas. How do you celebrate the Christmas days this year?
Darnell: I’m spending Christmas on my favorite island, Ibiza. There I can switch off wonderfully, enjoy the peace and quiet and look forward to good conversations with friends.
You are originally from the USA: are there certain traditions that you keep up year after year?
Darnell: Traditions are not very important to me. I like changes and new challenges.
They live very minimalistically and don’t like much decoration. How is your house decorated for Christmas?
Darnell: I’m not a great decorator for Christmas either. A couple of candles and a nice open fire are enough for me.
You once said in an interview that you don’t like gifts. How do you get presents at Christmas?
Darnell: I give myself peace and satisfaction. That is the best present.
What do you wish for in 2022?
Darnell: For 2022, I wish that we can all live carefree without Corona again. Definitely health.
