Adapted from a novel by Patricia MacDonald, The Murderer’s Daughter plays with family secrets, guilt, forgiveness and the quest for truth. Bruno Wolkowitch plays a father at the head of a broken family, Wednesday March 27 at 9:10 p.m. on France 2.
Your character, Pierre, leaves prison after fifteen years of detention for the murder of his wife, which he denies having committed. How did you want to build it?
Bruno Wolkowitch: I didn’t think in those terms. If I agreed to make this film, it’s because it was the first production of Carole Kornmann, who is a friend. I just wanted to take part in the adventure.
And the role in all this?
I don’t care about the role or what I represent. I can play a fascist or a far-left activist! If the project I’m participating in defends something that matches my ideas, I’ll go for it.
Pierre is the father of three children with whom relationships are sometimes complicated. How do you view your fictional children?
I had never worked with it before Nicolas Gob. But I knew him in particular for his role in the series A French village. He was my favorite collaborator. Nicolas is a huge actor and a man of great intelligence. Chloe Chaudoye is great because she’s not into seduction at all. She’s a hard worker. We come from the same place: the theater. We had the same training with Jean-Pierre Vincent who was my teacher and his, at the Comédie-Française. We have the same reference actors… I adopt her whenever she wants! same for me Emmanuel Bordier that I like a lot. If I only had partners like them, I would be the happiest.
This unit is an adaptation from a novel by Patricia MacDonald. Are you a customer of this author?
I’ve never read anything by her. The literature that thrills me would rather be Letters to a young poet of Rainer Maria Rilke, The little Prince of Saint-Exupéry or the poems of Leonard Cohen.
What do those who recognize you in the street tell you?
It’s extremely rare for anyone to stop me, except for Russian tourists. In general, people are very respectful. I do my shopping, I take my children to middle school and high school. I’m a normal citizen who just does a job that’s a little less normal.
Why are you missing from social media?
I’m not interested in posting what I ate, nor in posting photos of my wife or my mother in a swimsuit. If I want news from my friends, I talk to them in person. I don’t care what people post.
