Bayern Munich suffered a surprising defeat against Werder Bremen. Ex-Munich player Mitchell Weiser scores the golden goal.
Bayern Munich would have needed a Bayer-Leverkusen moment in the final phase: 2nd in the table. The Bundesliga was 0-1 behind against Werder Bremen and ran desperately – but unlike their rivals on the leaderboard, the Munich team didn’t want to score a goal in stoppage time.
In the last minute, 18-year-old Mathys Tel’s shot went past the post. Because of this defeat, Leverkusen, who won in stoppage time on Saturday, now lead the table with a 7-point lead (with 1 game more).
Without shine and without will
Bayern struggled after the final whistle, but their second defeat of the season was not undeserved. Thomas Tuchel’s team appeared in their home stadium without any brilliance or will, and they also lacked the usual goal threat – for the first time in 4 years they remained without a league goal at home.
Bremen, on the other hand, fell into a frenzy of joy; former Munich player Mitchell Weiser (2012 to 2015 at Bayern) had provided the golden goal for the courageous outsider in the 59th minute.
