Decidedly, this beginning of the year starts on the hats of wheel side takeover of companies. After Microsoft formalized the takeover of Activision Blizzard, it is the turn of its competitor to make a takeover announcement, although it is less substantial. Indeed, Sony has formalized the takeover of Bungie, to which we owe the Destiny license in particular, whose second opus continues to seduce players and to update itself, with, moreover, an extension to be released in February.
Following this announcement, Sony and Bungie wanted to reassure the community, explaining that this takeover was not going to impact players in any way.. Destiny 2 will remain a cross-platform, cross-play game and Bungie will be an independent subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment. The studio can also, if it wishes, self-publish. In addition, the roadmap for Destiny 2 will not change and the planned DLCs should normally arrive, as announced.
In the long term, this acquisition should allow Bungie to explore new horizons, by creating new franchises, but also by supporting what the developers have set up in recent years, with Destiny, having a nice community.
Bungie has limitless potential to unite friends around the world.
We have found a partner in PlayStation that shares our dream and is committed to accelerating our creative vision of building generation-spanning entertainment.
