Burberry: Daniel Lee, ex-Bottega Veneta, appointed at creation

Burberry shares gained more than 3% on Wednesday morning on the London Stock Exchange after the British luxury house announced the appointment as creative director of Daniel Lee, the former artistic director of Bottega Veneta.

Around 10:20 a.m. (local time), the stock took 3.1%, posting the biggest rise in the FTSE 100 index.

Daniel Lee, who will join the company on October 3, will be based in London, where he will report to Burberry Chief Executive Jonathan Akeroyd.

Born in Bradford (England), Daniel Lee was, between 2018 and 2021, the creative director of Bottega Veneta, where he breathed new life into the Italian brand.

“Daniel Lee is widely considered to be behind the brand’s rebirth and early success, but he suddenly left his job in November 2021, without giving further explanation,” recalls a London-based analyst.

Prior to his appointment at Bottega Veneta, he had been director of ready-to-wear at Celine, which he joined in 2012 following stints at Maison Margiela, Balenciaga and Donna Karan.

In his new role, Daniel Lee will oversee all of Burberry’s collections. Her first show is scheduled for February 2023, during London Fashion Week.

‘His arrival is a positive element, knowing that many investors were asking for a new perspective both in terms of creation and design’, underlines the London analyst.
