Buried by an avalanche – ski tourer lay under snow masses for five minutes

A female ski tourer who was buried in an avalanche had incredible luck in misfortune on Sunday’s head. She was under the masses of snow for five minutes before her companion could dig up. Due to the bad weather conditions, the mountain rescuers also had to climb up on touring skis.

It must have been horror minutes for two tourers! You were just out and about at the Sonntagsköpfl in the Tux Prealps when an avalanche broke out around 2 p.m. A woman was buried by the avalanche. But she had many guardian angels with her, because luckily another tourer, her companion, was able to free her after around five minutes. The buried woman suffered a leg injury. Bad weather conditions Since the weather conditions were bad, an emergency helicopter could not fly to the scene of the accident. As a result, the Schwaz and Kaltenbach mountain rescue services were alerted. While the Schwaz mountain rescuers ascended directly on touring skis, the Kaltenbach mountain rescuers were transported from Hochfügen as far up the mountain as possible on a snowcat – the rest they climbed up on touring skis. At around 6 p.m., the injured person was finally rescued. She was brought to Hochfügen and from there subsequently admitted to the Schwaz district hospital.
