(Reuters) – A Burmese court has postponed until January 10 the verdict expected on Monday in one of the trials against ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi on charges of breaching telecommunications regulations, it has been learned someone familiar with the procedure.

Nearly ten legal proceedings target Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been detained since the military coup of February 1 and who faces a total of a prison term of over 100 years. The fallen 76-year-old leader denies all charges against her.

Aung San Suu Kyi’s supporters denounce unfounded legal proceedings intended to end his political career and thus allow the army to strengthen its grip on power.

A four-year prison sentence was handed down earlier this month against the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize laureate for violating the rules for handling the coronavirus epidemic. This sentence was later reduced to two years of detention at the secret location where Aung San Suu Kyi is currently being held.
