But why does the new Apple Magic Keyboard cost as much as an iPad 10?

At the same time as the iPad Pro M4 and iPad Air M2 were made official, Apple unveiled a brand new keyboard. This is the Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro. It costs 399 euros. But what is so special about it?

Apple was not idle on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. The Californian company unveiled numerous products. The new iPad Air M2, for starters, then the iPad Air Pro M4, with the all-new M4 chip. As an accessory, we note the arrival of the Pencil Pro and… the famous Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro which is discussed here.

The Magic Keyboard already existed. But here, this is a new product, entirely designed to go hand in hand with the iPad Air M4. It is thinner and lighter and adopts the cantilever suspended design, which gives it the sensation of flying and which offers numerous inclinations to its user. The new Magic Keyboard also offers a large aluminum wrist rest.

14 function keys and a glass trackpad

Apple’s press release tells us that it “ now includes a row of 14 function keys that provide access to things like brightness and volume“. The biggest novelty lies in the appearance of a larger glass trackpad, which finally integrates haptic feedback. It no longer has anything to envy of Mac trackpads, since the haptic feedback makes its use more natural.

For connection, no wire or Bluetooth needed. Everything happens magnetically, with the Smart Connector which powers the keyboard and takes care of data transmission. There is still a USB-C connector to recharge the iPad.

As expensive (or almost) as an iPad 10

Be careful of the price, which clearly stings. It will cost 349 euros for the version compatible with the 11-inch iPad Pro M4, but 399 euros for the version that accompanies the 13-inch iPad Pro M4. This is approximately the new price of the iPad 10, now sold for 439 euros by Apple following the very recent price drop.
