(BFM Bourse) – The Paris Stock Exchange ends records this week at a new historic high, closing at 7,966.68 points. The CAC 40 is now less than 35 points from the symbolic threshold of 8,000 points.
After a sluggish start, the Paris Stock Exchange broke new records this Friday. The CAC 40 ended its run up 0.7%, to 7,966.68 points, which constitutes a new, unprecedented closing mark.
During the session, the tone was already set, with an absolute peak at 7,976.40 points, recorded shortly after 4 p.m. 8,000 points are now within reach for the Parisian star index, still euphoric since the excellent publication by the American Nvidia on Wednesday evening.
Over this record week as a whole, the Parisian index therefore increased by 2.54%. This is the second best weekly performance of the year for the CAC 40 since the week of January 22 (+3.6%).
Strong company publications fueled the buying trend on the Parisian index. Including obviously that of Nvidia which delighted the markets. The American tech giant caused a sensation by publishing results and prospects that exceeded expectations. Thanks to this quality publication, Nvidia saw its capitalization increase by an additional $277 billion, in Thursday’s session alone. This is the largest capitalization gain on Wall Street in one day, erasing the precedent of Meta which saw its stock market value jump by $196 billion in early February.
Fnac Darty in the upwards department
In Paris, investors also had the opportunity to decipher the latest company publications. Including that of Fnac Darty which jumped 7.5%, investors appreciate the free operating cash flow which clearly exceeded expectations in 2023, despite a difficult year for consumption. The file would also have taken on a speculative dimension, according to Oddo BHF cited by our colleagues at Investir, on the basis of the recent increase in the capital of businessman Daniel Kretinsky to 29.9% of the capital, or just below of the 30% threshold which requires launching a public purchase offer.
Bouygues, on the other hand, lost 1.6%, while the mobile operator of the Bouygues conglomerate is negotiating the takeover of La Poste Telecom for 950 million euros.
On other markets, the euro gained 0.03% against the dollar to 1.0828 dollars. Oil is down sharply after Iraq announced the reopening of a refinery closed for ten years. reports Rania Gule, analyst at XS.com. “This announcement comes amid expectations that OPEC countries will not decide to significantly reduce their production, although they have indicated a likely extension of voluntary production cuts beyond the first quarter of the year,” continues Rania Gule.
The April contract on Brent from the North Sea dropped 2.3% to 81.76 dollars per barrel while that on WTI listed in New York plunged 2.4% to 76.71 dollars per barrel.
