Calais: a driver rushes at migrants during a brawl that left four injured

It is a scene of incredible violence that took place during New Year’s night in Calais (Pas-de-Calais). A city resident and three migrants engaged in a brawl followed by a settling of scores. The four are injured, one of them seriously.

It is in the Calais district of Beau-Marais that the brawl broke out. “Against a background of significant alcoholism on both sides, insults erupted between a resident and migrants,” said on Saturday, the secretary general of the prefecture of Pas-de-Calais, Alais Castanier. The latter clarified that it is “the inhabitant of this neighborhood who sought contact” before the fight broke out.

According to La Voix du Nord, the local resident who would be 26 years old, would then have been severely beaten by his attackers, equipped with a chain in particular. It was then that a relative of the Calais resident, also present, went to retrieve his car and rushed towards the migrants.

Two were injured in the legs, while the third is in a more serious condition, as the vehicle “ran over him”. Residents witnessed the scene from the windows of the towers in their neighborhood. Filmed by some of them, the video has been posted and is circulating on social networks.

Shortly after the incident, the police arrested the driver of the car and an uninjured migrant who was in possession of “a chain or other object of the fight”. The resident shot in the face and the three injured migrants, two of whom are believed to be Eritreans, were taken to a medical center. On Saturday, one of the migrants injured in the knee was finally released from the hospital and taken to police custody.
