Calais: soldiers filmed in full motorized rodeo near migrants

Usurreal and shocking scene. Soldiers, who were on board a vehicle of the Vigipirate mission, were filmed Sunday December 19 in Calais doing a motorized rodeo near a migrant camp. On the images, we can see the 4×4 skidding and eventually getting stuck. Photojournalist Louis Witter posted a video on Twitter. The outraged reactions did not take long to fall.

Ecologist MEP Karima Delli reacted on Twitter by criticizing the Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parly. “Women, men and especially children are afraid, hungry and cold. And a few meters away, soldiers are playing around with their 4×4, ”she lamented, before adding:“ It’s shameful. “

The Army was quick to respond to the controversy by denouncing an “inadmissible scene” and directly signaling, in response to Louis Witter’s tweet, that a “command investigation [était] triggered immediately ”.

The migrants wanted to help the bogged down soldiers

According to the photojournalist, who filmed the entire scene, the stuck-up soldiers needed reinforcements and an army truck came to pull the vehicle from there. But earlier, he said, migrants there tried to help them by digging to clear the wheels.

“The soldiers of Vigipirate have just become confused with the CRS because exiled people are digging in flip-flops in the mud to get the car out of there while the police do not move an inch,” said Louis Witter on Twitter.

According to HuffPost, the Minister of the Armed Forces took up the matter. The driver of the vehicle “behaved completely inappropriate by engaging in dangerous maneuvers”, moved the staff of the armies in a statement. He “firmly” condemns the facts and recalls “the demand for exemplarity which is imposed on the soldiers of the French armies”. “The appropriate sanctions will be decided according to the responsibilities that will be established,” warned the staff.
