The lockdown is nerve-wracking – of young and old. The following applies to parents: do everything to ensure that the child does not have a crying fit. And you quickly find yourself in absurd situations …

You're welcome. Not. cry. You're welcome. Not. freak out. You're welcome. Not. wake up. Some parents may have caught themselves doing one of these mantras – or all three – over the past few months. The lockdown tears on the nerves of children and adults alike.

Now every parent knows: A stressed child is not to be trifled with. Especially not if you have hardly any energy left to keep your eyes open, let alone discuss with the little ones. During the corona pandemic, the educational strategy of many households, for the safety of all of us, of course, may have changed somewhat.

So if you've ever caught yourself wondering what the hell you're doing, now is the time to read on. You are not alone. The lockdown brings out the most absurd aspects of us, as a survey by the British baby brand Aldi, "Mamia", now shows. The results are so wonderful that we just have to smile. And as we know, humor almost always helps.

Now please don't cry! How parents calm their children down in lockdown

Raise the curtain on the most absurd things parents did to reassure their child during lockdown:

  • A mother says she ate her toddler's sand cake to keep them from getting sad.
  • One parent found himself singing out loud in the supermarket to keep his child laughing.
  • A child didn't want to sleep anywhere else than on the trampoline. So you left it.
  • Parents were forced to throw a house party – because their child always wanted to listen to loud drum and bass music.
  • One mother noticed how her child enjoyed having her dog lick their toes – and let them do it.
  • One parent pretended to be a wasp to keep their child (and themselves) from a tantrum.
  • Several parents admit that their children copied something from them in lockdown – swear words.

So, dear parents: Take it easy – we don't always have to have everything under control. Especially not our children.
