Campsites in Saxony-Anhalt: The 5 most beautiful places for your camping holiday

Camping holidays in their own country have been very popular with many, not only since Corona. In a new series, FOCUS Online presents the most beautiful campsites in every federal state: today Saxony-Anhalt.

1. Zabakucker See, Jerichow

The Zabakucker See is an approximately ten hectare large quarry lake near the municipality of Jerichow in Saxony-Anhalt. This bathing and fishing lake has a very good water quality and has quality class 1 of the EU bathing water. The campsite with its 150 grassy pitches is located right here in this idyllic landscape.

In addition to bread service, snack bar and kiosk, there is a playground on the premises as well as a mud track for children, a fitness path, table tennis and beach volleyball. If you have the appropriate license, you can also fish and dive in the lake – even nudism is allowed.

2. Holiday park Birnbaumteich, Neudorf in the Harz

This campsite with 260 pitches is located between the mountains and forests of the Lower Harz near Harzgerode – almost 100 of which are parceled out. The property borders directly on a small lake, which in addition to an approximately 100 meter long sunbathing lawn also offers real beach feeling with two sandy bays. There is also a bathing island on the lake where you can relax and enjoy the view of the beautiful seascape.

In addition to the climbing wall, play and volleyball courts, fitness room and sauna, as well as an entertainment program, the campsite also has a cozy restaurant with beer garden, where guests who do not feel like self-catering can book full board.

Excursion tips: At a distance of about 20 to 30 kilometers are Falkenstein Castle, Quedlinburg with its historic old town, the Hexentanzplatz near Thale with a cable car, animal park, summer toboggan run and mountain theater, as well as the Titan-RT, a 483 meter long pedestrian suspension bridge near Elbingerode, one of the longest suspension bridges worldwide.

3rd Harz Camp Bremer Teich, Quedlinburg

Far away from the hustle and bustle in the middle of the forests of the northern Harz Mountains, vacationing and slowing down – the Harz-Camp Bremer Teich is just right for this, because in this idyll guests leave everyday life behind them very quickly.

The hilly area with 100 parking spaces is located directly on the lake, where vacationers can relax on a 100-meter-long and 40-meter-wide lawn – the access to the lake is via a sandy bay.

The region is ideal for hiking and cycling – the Northern Harz border hiking trail is nearby.

4. Bergwitzsee Resort, Kemberg

It's hard to believe, but the beautiful Bergwitzsee, which lies in the north of the Dübener Heide nature park, is actually not a natural lake at all. Because it owes its existence to the lignite mining that was carried out in the region until 1955. It was only groundwater and running water that flowed into a residual open pit that created this lake.

Its extraordinarily beautiful location and the good water quality make the water a paradise for swimmers, sailors, surfers and canoeists. The adjacent campsite with its 100 parking spaces even offers boat slip and mooring – and also rents out boats.

Bathers can relax either on the 50 meter long sandy beach or on the spacious lawns. A snack bar, a kiosk and a cozy restaurant take care of your physical well-being.

5. Camping at the Rudelsburg, Bad Kösen

The medieval Rudelsburg, which towers 85 meters above the south bank of the Saale, gives this campsite its name. Because it is located exactly below the 12th century building and is surrounded by forest and floodplains. The spa town of Bad Kössen is only a stone's throw away on the opposite side of the Saale.

The meadow area with shrubs and trees offers 120 parking spaces with electricity as well as sewage and fresh water connections. In addition to two well-kept sanitary buildings and covered cooking facilities, it also offers a bread service – there is also a kiosk and a snack bar on site.

If you are vacationing here, you should definitely go on a canoe or rubber boat tour: there is a boat rental on the premises, which also offers guided tours on the Saale and the Unstrut. Further tips: wellness in the Bad Kössen thermal baths and cycling on the Saale cycle path, which leads directly past the site.
