MONTREAL, Feb. 11. 2022- Concerning shipments from or to Quebec: To avoid bottlenecks created by heavy loads requiring special handling, we intend to implement our load restrictions for the spring before the publication of the notice from the Government of Quebec. The latter has not yet announced the official dates for the thaw period, but we plan to have all heavy loads arrive in March before the restrictions start. If the Quebec government announces an earlier date, we will make the necessary adjustments. Here are tentative dates:

Quebec:
Zone 1 – March 21 (12:01 a.m.) to April 29 (11:59 p.m.)
Zone 2 – March 21 (12:01 a.m.) to May 13 (11:59 p.m.)
Zone 3 – March 28 (12:01 a.m.) to May 13 (11:59 p.m.)
Note that the weight of loads transported in equipment to be delivered by CNTL must be reduced according to the requirements in the table below, for shipments that will arrive after the start dates listed above.
In order to help our customers during the period of weight restrictions:
CN will establish a ” shipping deadline » for customers sending normal weight shipments to the origin terminal (provided the consignee receives the shipment upon arrival at the destination terminal).
Please note that the date of shipment will be the date of reservation. CN’s online tools can help determine the booking date and shipping plan.
If a container is overloaded, CN may transship or use specialized equipment to move the shipment. Any transhipment will be at the prevailing market price. Charges for using four-axle frames are set by CN 9100 tariff ($800 surcharge per shipment). To prevent these frames from being held up, all containers must be unloaded without delay. Acceptance of overloaded containers will only take place upon receipt of written confirmation that the party paying the charge accepts the surcharge.
Overloaded containers that will be delayed but have been shipped before the ” shipping deadline » will be delivered without being subject to the additional charges set out in tariff CN 9100.
The table below shows the shipping deadlines prior to CN’s application of spring weight restrictions:
