Canal+ joins forces with Snapchat to attract young people

INTERVIEW

It is one of the most popular social networks among young people. Snapchat now has a new medium among its partners: Canal+. The encrypted channel is launching the “Discover” offer, the application tab dedicated to editorial content. “Our brands are successfully developing their community on the various platforms, so it was important for us to continue this development on Snapchat, with content adapted to the audience of this application”, explains at the microphone of Europe 1 Pierre-Emmanuel Ferrand, director digital from Canal+.

“This audience is particularly interesting since Snapchat is a very engaging platform for young people, especially those under 25,” he continues. “It’s important for us to exchange with this community and to bring it little by little towards the Canal+ offers and the MyCanal platform.”

14 Canal+ shows available on Snapchat

Snapchat is indeed very popular with young people: the application has 17.7 million active users every day in France, including 9 million who are under 25 years old. Canal+ will broadcast, in vertical format, episodes of programs that we already know, such as The question box, Click and Pathfinders, the media for positive initiatives aimed at young people. In addition to these programs already present on its channel and its site, Canal+ also provides exclusive original content reserved for Snapchat.

“We have already published the first format, which is called ‘Portrait Mode’. This format is designed for Snapchat”, cites Pierre-Emmanuel Ferrand as an example. “The second axis on which we are going to develop our content on Snapchat are our pillars: sport, cinema and humor. We are going to bring new writing to it. On sport, for example, we have a team dedicated to formats SnapChat, around Formula 1, in particular.” In all, Canal+ plans to broadcast 14 shows on Snapchat. Four formats are already available on the platform. In the coming weeks, ten new Canal+ content should arrive in the Discover section of Snapchat.
