Captain America 3: this is the movie you will never see

One of the screenwriters of “Captain America: Civil War” confided how the big boss of Marvel Kevin Feige insisted on changing the scenario of the film and imposing the subject of Civil War. Find out what plot was originally planned.

When Captain America: Civil War was released, no spectator could suspect that the plot he saw had nothing to do with the one originally planned. On The Town podcast, screenwriter Nate Moore shared the film’s original plot.

“We wanted Cap and Bucky to eventually reconcile. (..) We knew we wanted to use Zemo, what a great character. Madbomb-related MacGuffin, [un objet] that forces people to fight each other. Quite similar to what they did with Kingsman.”

The comics madbomb was released in 1975 in Captain America n°193, and the tool indeed drives the population completely mad and in the long term, these madbombs implanted almost everywhere can lead to the destruction of the United States.

It was cool, grounded in reality, politics, whatever you want and [Kevin Feige] told us: ‘guys, this is not a strong enough idea’.

The screenwriters have all the same negotiated to be able to write a first draft in order to present it to their boss and convince him. Producer Kevin Feige agreed, but as the writing was almost done, he walked into Nate Moore’s office saying:

‘I think you should adapt Civil War’. I replied that we didn’t have half [des héros] who are in Civil War, like the New Warriors [qui causent la guerre civile dans le comics, NdlR]… Here are all the reasons why we can’t do it.

Feige listened to the arguments, then said: “Go home, read them and talk about them”. But Moore is still not convinced, and persists: “There are too many things we don’t have”. The producer insists and finally, Madbomb is abandoned, and Joe Russo, co-director of the film is delighted.

Looking back, Moore admits: “It was scary to throw something away entirely and start from scratch, it was always kind of weird, but he was right. He was right. We were still able to process Bucky’s storyline and we also figured out how to use Zemo”.

Civil War also served to introduce the character of Spider-Man as well as T’Challa and Wakanda. The latter country was then detailed in Black Panther, released in 2018 and then Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, currently in theaters.
