Captain America & Black Panther: Amy Hennig confirms that there is no co-op, and gives details on the game

Skydance New Media lifted the veil on his first project during the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase last Friday, thus confirming the rumors arounda Captain America & Black Panther game taking place during World War II. An announcement that is surprising, especially with the few details that were given to us, but Amy Hennig (Uncharted) spoke to Game Informer to clarify a couple of things about his studio’s game.

A young Steve and an undecided Wakanda

Seeing that the title would feature four playable characters, many had reminiscences of Marvel’s Avengers and were afraid that the game was moving towards co-op. But Hennig reaffirms it once again, this Captain America & Black Panther game will be single player only, and will have no multiplayer element.

She then returns to the studio’s choice to address these two superheroes specifically, in particular Black Panther and the role of Wakanda during this period:

We like the idea of exploring the Black Panther of this era. What was 1940s Wakanda when they were hidden from the world? How would they react to these world wars near their borders and their continent? And the debate of whether they can stay neutral and stay on the sidelines when the whole world is at war. »

As for Steve Rogers, the game intends to tell his beginnings as Captain Americain order to see him learning his new role, as explained by Marc Bernardin of Skydance:

We haven’t really seen who Steve Rogers is in most of WWII. The comics explored this territory a bit, but we didn’t see it on screen. […] We haven’t had the chance to get to know Steve Rogers well as a young man, freshly transformed and fresh in uniform. Every time we’ve seen Steve Rogers at this point, he’s been pure-hearted. He’s a pure-hearted knight, but we didn’t get the impression that he had gone through an officer training school. No one taught him to be a leader. He has natural gifts, but there is a learning process. How does he build a team? We find ways to challenge it. »

An ambitious first game

Which is certain, is that the ambitions are great for the first game of this studioand Amy Hennig does not hesitate to set the bar high.

I’m excited about this game. We build on our experiences by telling action-packed cinematic adventures. We’re changing things in the mechanics and controls that will make players feel fresh and welcome people who’ve always wanted to pick up a controller but may have been intimidated that a game wasn’t for them. . We’re trying to solve this problem of making a game where you feel like you’re playing these characters and choreographing the moment-to-moment experience, instead of feeling like you’re in a game with a logical tactic that you have to to beat. »

We are now waiting to know when the game can be remounted, but it does not seem to be for now.
