Car included – Carinthian (43) rescued driver from train tracks

A 43-year-old from Spittal reacted with lightning speed and presence of mind on Wednesday. When he noticed that a car was trapped between closed railway barriers, he didn’t hesitate and helped a 74-year-old woman.

Shortly before noon, the 74-year-old driver apparently missed the glowing red light at a level crossing in Spittal an der Drau and wanted to cross the tracks. “When she was on the tracks, the railway barriers closed and locked the woman in,” says a police officer. Woman rescued, ÖBB alerted A 43-year-old from Spittal then demonstrated his civil courage: he immediately stopped, got out and bent the eight-meter-long barrier boom at the predetermined breaking point so that the 74-year-old could leave the danger area. “After rescuing the woman, the man called the police emergency number,” the police continue. This alerted the ÖBB, which immediately warned all incoming trains: “The trains that arrived shortly afterwards and had already been alerted drove through the danger zone at walking speed until the barrier boom was repaired.” There is still a report for the 74-year-old at BH Spittal the Drau.
