Schumacher is “completely fit” after the crash

In qualifying for the Grand Prix in Saudi Arabia, Mick Schumacher crashed into the barriers at great speed, the Haas driver’s car was badly damaged. Despite the bad pictures, the first all-clear was given very quickly, and Schumacher now reports that he is “completely fit”.

Formula 1 driver Mick Schumacher does not feel any after-effects from his serious accident during qualification in Saudi Arabia. “I’m completely fit,” said the Haas driver before the race in the evening (7 p.m. / Sky and in the live ticker on ntv.de) in the paddock. “That shows the safety of cars today.”

According to his own assessment, the son of record world champion Michael Schumacher would have been able to drive the second Grand Prix of the year. The 23-year-old reported that “an extremely large number” of parts broke on his Haas. It is therefore a matter of damage limitation in order to be able to sit in an operational car again in Melbourne in two weeks.

Schumacher survived the violent crash in Jeddah without any significant injuries, but his car was severely damaged. “It’s too uncertain how he feels in the morning. The car is also in bad condition, we would have to start from the pit lane anyway. We’re concentrating fully on Melbourne,” team boss Günther Steiner announced in the evening. Shortly thereafter, Mick Schumacher also reported with a final all-clear: “I’m fine,” he wrote on Twitter and thanked for the “lovely messages”.

Schumacher crashed sideways into the track barrier at high speed on Saturday in the second round of the starting position hunt on the ultra-fast street circuit in Jeddah. The car was thrown across the track, losing two wheels and then coming to a stop badly damaged.

Schumacher was later examined in the track hospital. He was then flown by helicopter to King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital in Jeddah for further testing as a precaution. “It was probably a bit more dramatic for the people outside than for me,” said Schumacher, who wanted to “tinker” with his team on the car a bit on Sunday.
