Car without a driving licence: are we allowed to drive on the highway? : Current Woman Le MAG

A car without a license cannot go beyond 45 km/h, a speed which could be dangerous on a fast lane and which could cause incidents. For safety as well as to respect the law, it is better to refrain from going on the highway with one of these carts.

Can you drive on the highway with a cart?

Cars without a license can be driven from the age of 14 without the obligation to have obtained a B license. But these vehicles cannot be driven everywhere like cars. They are, for example, not allowed to drive on the highway, because these light motor quadricycles cannot go beyond 45 km/h. Iarticle R421-2 of the Highway Code therefore stipulates that these cars cannot use the French motorway network, nor the expressways, nor the peripheral networks reserved for vehicles that can maintain a high speed.

What are the possible penalties?

Anyone who nevertheless enters the motorway in a car without a license risks a fine of up to 1,500 euros. The vehicle can also be immobilized or even confiscated. However, since it is a vehicle without a license, even if you have one, you do not risk losing points. Be careful, a GPS can lead you to a fast lane. It is therefore better to adapt its settings to your type of vehicle to avoid unpleasant surprises.

And in terms of security?

This prohibition applies mainly for security reasons. Such a “slow” vehicle is dangerous on a road traveled by vehicles with much higher speeds who do not expect to meet a cart. The driver of the car without a license risks being hit. On the other hand, in town or on departmental and national roads that are not expressways, this risk is greatly reduced and vehicles without a license can drive there without restriction.
