PARIS, Aug 22 (Reuters) – Carrefour announced in a press release on Monday that it would freeze the prices of 100 “everyday” products under its own brand for 100 days to “support the purchasing power of the French”.

This operation, which runs until November 30, concerns both food and non-food products and is part of a price freeze “of key back-to-school products”, underlines the distributor in its press release.

During the parliamentary debate on the package of measures in favor of purchasing power – the first major texts at the start of Emmanuel Macron’s second five-year term – the government called on large companies to participate in the effort to alleviate the impact of inflation for consumers by complementing the measures financed by public expenditure.

TotalEnergies and CMA CGM notably announced new discounts on their prices at the end of July, responding to the government’s call to increase their participation in the fight against inflation.

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire, stressed in an interview published Sunday in Sud-Ouest that “it is now that we must help the French the most”, because “we are at the peak of inflation”.
