Cause clarified – ash set fire to hut in Altaussee

The flames almost seized the house! Fortunately, a resident noticed on Thursday night that a fire had broken out in the garden hut in Altaussee (Liezen district). Now it is very likely clear why: The ashes that were disposed of in a garbage can next to it in the evening had not yet cooled down sufficiently.

Shortly before eleven o’clock on Friday night, a 68-year-old woman from Altaussee noticed that a fire had broken out in the garden shed and sounded the alarm. The flames threatened to spread to the family house next door. Working with 48 people, the local volunteer fire brigades were able to quickly bring the fire under control. According to the police, there was considerable property damage.

Fire investigations completed
The cause of the fire was clarified on Friday: Ash that has not cooled down sufficiently is said to be responsible. In the evening it was thrown in the trash near the garden shed. Another cause of the fire or third-party fault could not be determined.
