On the occasion of CES 2022, the French Microoled and its department dedicated to augmented reality, ActiveLook, unveiled a new platform that allows its technology to be integrated into glasses.

In addition to this platform, called NexT, ActiveLook unveiled the Engo-1, its first glasses to join it.

Keep an eye on the effort

Microoled, a company located in Grenoble, first specialized in OLED micro-screens. If this is a question of augmented reality, its activity is primarily focused on optical devices, such as cameras, cameras or binoculars.

At CES in Las Vegas, its ActiveLook branch announced that it had developed a platform facilitating the hardware and software integration of its micro-screens with glasses intended for sports. The objective, of course: to be able to display various useful information during the effort, such as heart rate or navigation aid.

This NexT platform must use as little energy as possible. It uses a monochrome AMOLED mini-display with a resolution of 304 x 256 pixels that consumes less than one milliwatt. She also uses bluetooth Low Energy and can therefore connect to various connected objects, starting with the smartphone and the watch. ActiveLook also mentions compatibility with other more specific sensors, such as those measuring heart rate.

12 hours of battery life for these augmented reality glasses

The NexT platform weighs around thirty grams, which is not excessive for a device of this type. At the same time, ActiveLook presented the first pair of glasses to integrate its platform. In the end, the Engo-1 weighs 42 grams, which is more than acceptable weight for glasses that will accompany an athlete and to stay in place in all circumstances.

These glasses also display 12 hours of battery life, are Garmin IQ Connect, iOS and Android compatible. The information displayed can be personalized with a simple gesture. Among the data available are the distance traveled, elevation gain and heart rate. In short, they are glasses intended for cyclists, runners or skiers.

The nose bridge and temples are adjustable. The screen, meanwhile, has photochromic lenses and UV protection.

In its press release, ActiveLook does not mention a release date or price order for its AR glasses. Such information could be known later. In the meantime, the brand specifies only to carry out demos and tests on demand.
