CES 2024 – LG presents a transparent Oled screen for individuals

LG presents a transparent Oled screen. This technology is not new, since it has already been used for commercial purposes for several years. On the other hand, LG is integrating it for the first time into the home experience as part of a 77-inch television, notably transformable into a virtual aquarium.

A model that will be marketed to the general public

This is not the first time that a transparent screen has been presented at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). LG had already shown a model of this type in 2021, while another transparent TV was unveiled by Panasonic in 2016.

For this new edition of CES, LG aims to make a splash with its 77-inch LG OLED T transparent television. Nestled in a shelf, the screen, which has the appearance of a large transparent window, displays various images such as a school of fish or a constellation of stars. A simple press of a button transforms this display into a television screen that can broadcast any type of content.

This model designed by LG eliminates as many cables as possible and only its power cord retains a wired character. Image sources such as the decoder, Chromecast or video game console are connected to an external wireless box, which can be positioned up to 9 meters from the television. This Oled television will be delivered with different screen savers: the aquarium scene, a clock, widget assemblies, etc. LG has designed its device so that the screen saver can always be on, even after the television is turned off in its primary function.

The LG OLED T is expected to be released to the general public in mid-2024, only in 77 inches. Its selling price is not yet known.
