CES 2024: will LG’s new 4K Oled monitor revolutionize the market?

Oled monitors are finally becoming more popular, with a delay on our smartphones and televisions. Excellent news for gamers, who can now benefit from the advantages of this technology offering infinite contrast and almost zero response time. Many models — 27 inches and ultrawide 49-inch screens — landed on the market in 2023, but the 32-inch 4K screens were still missing.

4K Oled 32 inches and 240 Hz or even… 480 Hz!

LG fills this gap with the 32GS95UE, a 32-inch 4K Oled monitor capable of going up to 240 Hz. A stunning refresh rate which could prove interesting in competitive multiplayer in particular. But this is not the only argument of this screen, since it includes a fairly original functionality.

Called Dual-Hz, it allows you to display a 4K definition (3840 x 2160 px) at 240 Hz, or to opt for a monstrous refresh of 480 Hz, at the cost of a drop in the definition in Full HD (1920 x 1080px). This is the first time that a monitor has offered this dual use, but we had already observed this technology on certain Razer laptops, notably the Blade 16 that we tested.

The interest here again is to obtain nervous multiplayer for exemplary fluidity. But beyond marketing considerations and battles with numbers, it is unlikely that the average gamer will be able to notice a difference beyond 240 Hz. The interest of Dual-Hz is essentially to be able to truly achieve an fps rate ( frames per second) high, the 4K definition being far too demanding in terms of performance, even with a very high-end graphics card.

The big unknown about this perfect monitor on paper remains its price, which risks being exorbitant. We will find out more at CES in Las Vegas in early January. LG will unveil other 34, 39 and even 45 inch monitors there.
