- Bayern Munich beat Inter Milan 2-0 away in the top game of Group C in the Champions League.
- Leroy Sané in the 25th minute and an own goal in the 2nd half make the difference at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.
- Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick on his debut in the “premier class” for Barcelona in a 5-1 win over outsider Viktoria Pilsen.
You don’t get tired at the start at Bayern. The German series champion won 18 Champions League opening games in a row. This did not change this year either – although the Germans were immediately drawn to an extremely tough nugget in “hammer group” C with Inter. Julian Nagelsmann’s team made their ambitions clear in the 2-0 win.
It took a long time for Bayern to break through the defensive bulwark in Milan. In the 25th minute, however, the time had come: Leroy Sané ended an outstanding move by the Germans to score the opening goal. Kimmich launched Sané from the center line and overturned the entire inter-defense with his lob. Sané skillfully took the ball and played around inter-goalie André Onana.
The preliminary decision came in the 66th minute when Sané and Kingsley Coman outplayed the opposing defenders with a double one-two. Sané put the ball across where Inter’s captain d’Ambrosio’s desperate rescue mission failed. The goal was counted as an own goal. It should stay with this result.
Barcelona thanks to Lewandowski hat-trick
It was to be assumed that the Czech representative Viktoria Pilsen would have a difficult time in the group. During the away game in Barcelona, it took less than 13 minutes for the favored hosts to take the lead through Franck Kessié.
As a result, the role of the protagonist changed to the much more well-known addition. Robert Lewandowski scored three times on his Champions League debut:
- 34 minutes: Lewandowski is launched by Sergi Roberto, arranges the ball and thrashes it from the edge of the penalty area into the Pilsner goal. After 5 goals in the league, it is the 1st goal in the “premier class” with the Catalans for the Poles.
- 45 minutes: This time Ousmane Dembélé shines as a preparer. Lewandowski lurks at the far post and skillfully heads the ball.
- 67 minutes: The Champions League debut for Barca degenerates into a complete success: Lewandowski flicks the ball from a considerable distance into the far corner – hat trick.
Just before Lewandowski’s second goal, Jan Sykora had managed to keep the Czechs’ hopes of an upset at the Camp Nou alive. The midfielder completed a counterattack with a header and halved his team’s deficit to 1:2.
The goal-hungry Catalans shouldn’t be denied a fifth strike, even after Lewandowski’s hat-trick. Ferran Torres delighted the Spanish fans with a superb volley after another brilliant Dembélé assist.
This is how it goes
The next cracker will follow shortly: In the second game in Group C, FC Bayern will meet Barcelona at their home stadium next Tuesday. Robert Lewandowski’s return to the Allianz Arena is something to be excited about. Meanwhile, Viktoria Pilsen welcomes Inter Milan.
