Champs-Elysées Film Festival: Adèle Exarchopoulos opening, Pierre Niney at Michel Gondry… All about the 2023 edition

From June 20 to 27, 2023, American and French independent cinemas meet on the most beautiful avenue in the world for the twelfth edition of the Champs-Elysées Film Festival. Feature and short films, guests… Follow the guide!

It’s now a tradition: as summer draws to a close, independent French and American cinemas come to brighten up the most beautiful avenue in the world during the Champs-Elysées Film Festival.

An event launched in 2012 which will celebrate its twelfth edition from June 20 to 27, with a selection of short and feature films, past or present, in competition or “simple” preview, with or without a guest.

Even more than the bridge between French and American cinematography that it has aspired to be since its inception, the festival intends to restore color to cinemas, damaged by the Covid pandemic: “In the 1970s, the Champs-Elysées had 65 cinemas. Today there are only 5 left”warns the president and founder Sophie Dulac in her editorial.

“One of the ambitions of this festival is to bring the public back to these mythical cinemas in order to discover audacious cinema, to make new encounters with big names in cinema, to attend previews and masterclasses and to enjoy our wonderful rooftop exceptionally accessible during the festival.

We are also loyal to our muse Marilyn Monroe who has accompanied us with her magnetism, her intelligence and her modernity for more than 10 years.”

IRA SACHS, ADELE EXARCHOPOULOS, JOEL EDGERTON, PIERRE NINEY…

Among the big names, Ira Sachs (key figure in American independent cinema, rewarded at Deauville in 2016 thanks to Brooklyn Village) will open the ball with Passages, in which he directs Ben Whishaw and Adèle Exarchopoulos, and will give a masterclass.

Like her compatriot Eliza Hittman, to whom we owe the overwhelming Never Rarely Sometimes Always (2020). Or actor Joel Edgerton, who will present the new feature film directed by Paul Schrader, Master Gardener, whose release in France is scheduled for July 5.

The public who did not have the chance to see them on site will be able to discover two French feature films very popular at Cannes: The Book of Solutions by Michel Gondry with Pierre Niney, and Vincent Must Die by Stephan Castang, with Karim Leklou and Vimala Pons, expected in theaters on November 15.

This year again, all types of films will be present on the Champs-Elysées. All you have to do is follow the guide.

COMPETITION – FRENCH FEATURE FILMS

COMPETITION – AMERICAN FEATURE FILMS

The feature film jury will this year be led by director Betrand Bonello, surrounded by Pénélope Bagieu, Irène Drésel (César for Best Original Music in 2023 for À plein temps), Ellie Foumbi and Rabah Nait Oufella.
