Charging an electric car will become even easier and faster thanks to Tesla

Tesla was present at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, with its brand new V4 Superchargers. But it was a new version, never crossed on the roads. This new version includes (finally!) a credit card reader. We explain to you why this changes everything.

Good plan Recharge

Benefit from a 10% discount on the cost of your top-ups, directly deducted from your next bills.

If you want to charge your electric car, you have to go to a station equipped with charging stations. Very often, these require a special card, or an application. This is the case of Tesla Superchargers, which allow, for the most part, to charge electric cars of any brand. It is still necessary to have the official application, and an account… But some terminals in the world are equipped with a bank card reader, to avoid these inconveniences.

Tesla: finally payment by credit card?

And the good news is that Tesla could soon equip its Superchargers with a credit card payment terminal. The American company was present at the Goodwood Speed Festival. She didn’t show a new car but… a new charging station. It is a Tesla Supercharger V4 (fourth generation) that can already be found in Europe, and in particular in France for a few days, on certain Tesla stations. But here, the charging station is not like the others.

Photos taken during the event by the association Tesla Owners UK indeed show a V4 Supercharger equipped with a screen and a location allowing the integration of a bank card payment system, via the contactless method. It is not yet known if this new terminal will be deployed soon, but Tesla did not show it for nothing, that’s for sure.

A method to earn even more money?

For some observers, the integration of a payment system on Tesla Superchargers could allow the American company to recover billions of dollars and euros in subsidies. Indeed, more and more states in the United States, or countries in Europe, are considering grant subsidies only for terminals equipped with a bank card reader.

Precisely, Europe provides for the obligation for terminals to integrate such a payment system before the end of 2024. This is already the case in Norway for the new charging stations installed since July 1, 2023. This makes it even easier and faster to recharge an electric car.
