“A dog named Beethoven” or “Midnight Run” made him famous. Now Charles Grodin has died of cancer at the age of 86.

Charles Grodin is dead. The actor, known for his role as his father in the animal comedies “A Dog Called Beethoven” and “A Family Called Beethoven”, has died of bone cancer, as reported by the US celebrity portal “TMZ”. Accordingly, his son said that the 86-year-old died on Tuesday (May 18) with his family after his health had recently deteriorated rapidly. So far there are no plans for the funeral. It also said the family is soliciting donations to charities in Charles’ memory.

Grodin made his acting debut on Broadway in the sixties. He became known to a larger audience in 1970 with his supporting role in Joseph Heller’s “Catch-22”. For his first leading role in “The Heartbreaker” he received a Golden Globe, in “Midnight Run” he played alongside Robert De Niro (77). Grodin also wrote his own plays and directed on Broadway. He leaves behind a wife and three children.
