On the second anniversary of Charlie Watts’ death, the Rolling Stones commemorated the deceased with moving posts.

“Charlie Watts was my bed”

Individual band members also remembered their deceased colleagues with moving social media posts. “Charlie Watts was my bed. I could lay down there knowing that not only would I sleep well, but I’d wake up and still be rocking,” wrote guitarist Keith Richards79, who turns 80 in December this year, to a black-and-white image that shows him smiling arm in arm with Watts.

Stones frontman Mick Jagger, 80, also posted in an Instagram story a series of touching images as well as a video showing Watts in action on stage. Guitarist Ronnie Wood, 76, who joined the band in 1974, shared a photoshowing him with the deceased, as well as a series of portraits of the former Stones drummer.

Since 1963 drummer for the Rolling Stones

Charlie Watts passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family in August 2021. An official cause of death was never given. His longtime wife Shirley Watts (1938-2022), whom he married in 1964, died 16 months after him. Watts had joined the then fledgling band in 1963 after meeting Jagger, Richards and Brian Jones (1942-1969) while playing rhythm and blues clubs.

Shortly before his death, the group announced in August 2021 that the drummer would not be on the upcoming “No Filter” US tour in the fall due to health reasons. A spokesman for the drummer said: “Charlie had one [medizinischen] Surgery, which was completely successful, but his doctors decided this week that he needs to rest and recover properly.” Watts passed away a few weeks later.
