Redmi K50: Xiaomi is planning cheaper flagship smartphones

Xiaomi has announced many smartphones in recent weeks. There are the top models Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro as well as some mid-range smartphones from the Redmi Note 11 series. But that’s not enough for the Chinese manufacturer. Now cancel with the Redmi K50, K50 Pro, K50 Pro+ and K50 Gaming are introducing four new top smartphones, but which appear under the inexpensive Redmi series. Xiaomi has now confirmed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will first be installed as the processor and later the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 will be integrated (source: Weibo). It is quite possible that the chip shortage will come into play here again.

While Xiaomi has equipped the K40 series with the Snapdragon 888, this changes with the K50 smartphones. Both the K50 and the K50 Pro are equipped with a Snapdragon 870 and are therefore not quite in the high-end sector. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is in the K50 Pro+, while the MediaTek chip is then used in the K50 Gaming. Pretty confusing – but you know that from Xiaomi.

Basically, the K series is reduced to the essentials, as we know it from previous Xiaomi smartphones. You get lots of power, a good display, a powerful camera and a chic design. But then you have to make small compromises when it comes to the features. For example, the fingerprint sensor is on the side of the case and not under the display. The prices should be significantly lower than the Xiaomi 12.

What the Xiaomi 12 Pro has to offer:

Is Xiaomi bringing the Redmi K50 to Germany?

Probably not – at least not under the name. A modification as a Poco smartphone would be conceivable. The K series is only intended for China, although with Xiaomi’s current strategy, you don’t really know what the Chinese company will do next anyway. Hardly anything is likely to happen before the launch of the Xiaomi 12 phones.
