Chelsea gambled away two leads: a late dream goal shocked Tuchel in the top game

Chelsea gambled away two tours
A late dream goal shocks Tuchel in the top game

It takes a sensational performance by local rivals West Ham United in the second half to bring Chelsea to their knees. But despite being in the lead twice, Thomas Tuchel’s team surrenders victory. The blues have to swallow several bitter pills at the same time.

Thomas Tuchel has suffered a setback with Chelsea in the English Premier League and has to fear for the championship lead. The Champions League winner lost in the top game at local rivals West Ham United 2: 3 (2: 1) and gave up the possible seventh win in the eighth away game. The Blues, who had previously been unbeaten in seven games, lost a lead twice. The Blues hadn’t lost in the last 48 games if they went into halftime with a lead.

The league leaders only lose for the second time this season, but the Tuchel team could lose first place on Saturday. Liverpool FC under team manager Jürgen Klopp can overtake Wolverhampton Wanderers (4 p.m.) with a win, the same applies to defending champion Manchester City, who will later compete at Watford FC (6.30 p.m.).

Masuaku counters Mount

Thiago Silva put the front runner, with national players Antonio Rüdiger and Kai Havertz in the starting line-up, into the lead (28th) when he was successful after a free-kick from Mason Mount with his head. Just two minutes later, the Brazilian saved a shot from Vladimir Coufal for his already beaten goalkeeper Edouard Mendy on the line.

Mendy had to take responsibility for equalizing fourth in the table through Manuel Lanzini (40th, penalty kick). The keeper lost the ball in the penalty area to Jarred Bowen after a risky back pass from Jorginho and only knew what to do with a foul. But before the break, Mount scored the 2-1 for the Blues (44th) with a wonderful direct acceptance. Havertz injured himself shortly afterwards and did not come out of the locker room in the second half.

After the break, Bowen equalized for the hosts (56th). Then Arthur Masuaku (87.) had his big appearance. The Frenchman struck from the left edge of the box, almost from a standing start, high into the short corner to win and surprised everyone with his shot. Both goals together made for a novelty this season: For the first time, Chelsea conceded more than one goal in a Premier League game.
