Jan. 6 (Reuters) – China’s intellectual property rights market authority on Thursday announced that digital music platforms were not allowed to enter into exclusivity deals except in exceptional circumstances, one more step in the process. tightening of antitrust rules in the private sector.
China’s National Copyright Administration made the announcement during a meeting in Beijing of the country’s major platforms, record companies and rights companies, according to a statement posted on its official WeChat account, but it did not ‘did not specify to which companies this ban applies.
In the sector, Tencent Holdings already announced last year that it had ended all exclusivity agreements, but the mobile phone manufacturer Xiaomi and the operators China Mobile and Netease each have their online music streaming service. Swedish streaming giant Spotify is not licensed to operate in mainland China.
