Chris O’Neill changes: New tactic is “incredibly clever”

It’s no secret that Chris O’Neill has struggled with life as a royal ever since he married Princess Madeleine. But in recent months, the businessman seems to have changed.

With their decision not to move back to Sweden as planned in August this year, Princess Madeleine, 41, and Chris O’Neill, 49, caused many disappointed faces in Sweden. Although the palace insisted that the family simply didn’t have enough time to move and therefore won’t finally leave Florida until 2024, it was quickly rumored that O’Neill was responsible for the decision. After all, the businessman has never had much interest in being in the royal spotlight.

Nevertheless, the 49-year-old has changed in recent months and is trying to fit in with his wife’s royal family, says Swedish rhetoric expert Elaine Eksvärd. On June 6, 2023, Chris O’Neill took part in Sweden’s national day for the first time in five years and, unlike last year, is also expected on Öland for Princess Victoria’s 46th birthday on Friday, July 14, as Court information chief Margareta Thorgren confirmed to the Swedish newspaper Expressen: “You will be on Öland during the Crown Princess’ birthday next week.”

“In his case, a whole nation will go along with it”

Another day in the royal spotlight for Chris. “They’re moving to Sweden so the possibilities are expanding. It’s incredibly clever, I think anyone who wants to have good relations with their in-laws, royal or not, would have done so and in their case a whole nation will move with them. I think he thinks it’s worth the effort, if he even thinks it’s a bother,” Elaine Eksvärd told Swedish newspaper Svensk Damtidning about Chris’ recent behavior.
