In an annual review, Google lists stars who have been searched for frequently. Right at the forefront: Christian Eriksen and Alec Baldwin.

Which personalities, fates and farewells have particularly moved Germans in recent months? At the end of the year, Google again published several lists in which the search interest for celebrities can also be seen. However, the information does not include the inquiries in absolute numbers, but rather shows the strongest increase compared to the previous year.

Why does a Danish soccer player top the list?

The Danish soccer player Christian Eriksen (29) is at the top of the list of the most trending personalities. The athlete collapsed on the pitch at the 2021 European Football Championship. He suffered cardiac arrest and had to be resuscitated. Whether he will be able to continue his career is still open, but media reports suggest that Eriksen has recently started training again.

Directly behind is Hollywood star Alec Baldwin (63), who was involved in a fatal incident on the set of the western “Rust” in October. Baldwin shot dead 42-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins with a gun handed to him. Director Joel Souza (48) was injured. It was later revealed that the firearm contained live ammunition. How this came to the set has not yet been clarified.

In third place in terms of search interest is Gil Ofarim (39). At the beginning of October, the musician had declared that he had been attacked anti-Semitically by an employee in a Leipzig hotel. This incident is also still being investigated. The “Spiegel” just reportedthat the investigators re-enacted the evening on site to clarify the situation.

Further ranks are occupied by three top candidates in the 2021 federal election.Union candidate Armin Laschet (60, CDU) is ahead of Olaf Scholz (63, SPD), who is to be elected as the new chancellor in the Bundestag today, and Annalena Baerbock (40, Greens), who is to become Foreign Minister. The three also headed, in the same order, a list of politicians who were trendy.

The personalities are followed by singer and “DSDS” judge Mike Singer (21) as well as former soccer player Michael Ballack (45), whose son Emilio (2002-2021) had a fatal accident in the summer. The top ten are completed by Thomas Gottschalk (71), who a few weeks ago with a comeback of the classic show “Wetten, dass ..?” led and Jérôme Boateng (33), whose ex-girlfriend, the former “Germany’s next top model” candidate Kasia Lenhardt (1995-2021), died at the beginning of the year.

Especially the far too early death of Lenhardt apparently moved German users when they said goodbye in 2021. The model was only 25 years old. In 2012 she took fourth place in the seventh season of “GNTM”. After the death of Lenhardt, who died in February, a discussion about cyberbullying and hate speech on social media arose.

When it comes to the most moving farewells to celebrities, Willi Herren (1975-2021) follows. The singer and actor died unexpectedly in April at the age of 45. Just a few days earlier, he had opened a potato food truck that burned out completely shortly after Herren’s death.

The death of Prince Philip (1921-2021), the long-time husband of Queen Elizabeth II (95) who died in April at the age of 99, also touched the users. The two royals had been married since 1947.

“This program will be different from what we usually know. ‘Guten Morgen Deutschland’ will never be the same again,” said his former colleagues, saying goodbye to Jan Hahn (1973-2021). The presenter died at the age of 47 as a result of cancer. The young YouTuber Philipp Mickenbecker (1997-2021) also succumbed to cancer.

Equally moving were the death of Horst Eckel (1932-2021), the last surviving member of the German national soccer team, which accomplished the “Miracle of Bern” in 1954, the case of the American woman Gabby Petito (1999-2021), as well as the deaths of football legend Gerd Müller (1945-2021), musician Barby Kelly (1975-2021) and Emilio Ballack.
