Christina Applegate wants to work as a voice actress in the future because of her illness. She was particularly taken with one project.
Actress Christina Applegate (51), who suffers from multiple sclerosis, has announced that she will probably never be in front of the camera again. Instead, she wants to work as a voice actress. She wants to voice Kelly Bundy in a planned animated series for “A Terribly Nice Family”. The role made her famous in the 1990s.
The disease affects her so badly
“I probably won’t work in front of the camera anymore,” says Applegate in an interview with “Vanity Fair” . She was diagnosed in the summer of 2021 while filming for the series Dead to Me. She completed the work despite her illness. But now she’s so limited that she “can’t even imagine” going on set.
“With MS, it’s never a good day. You just have fewer crappy days.” Even taking a shower becomes a challenge: “You can fall, you can slip, your legs can buckle. It’s scary for me to get in there.” The simplest things are suddenly no longer a matter of course. “Going down the stairs, carrying things – that’s no longer possible.” However, she can still drive short distances and prepare food for her daughter Sadie Grace (12).
A friend lives with her to help her. Otherwise, she avoids contacts: “I don’t really want to be with a lot of people because I’m immunocompromised.”
Keep the “brain running” with synchronized work
Despite her incurable illness, the 51-year-old wants to continue working. “I can do voiceover stuff because I have to support my family and keep my brain working,” she points out. Last year it was announced that an animated series based on the cult comedy Awfully Nice Family is in the pipeline. In it, Applegate would love to do the voice of her famous role. The other stars of the original series were also attached to the project, she revealed now. Maybe the Bundy TV family of four will be reunited. But that’s not concrete yet: “It’s not in our hands now, so we’ll just wait and see.”
The original series ran from 1987 to 1997 in eleven seasons and developed into a cult series. According to “Deadline”, the new edition comes from “Family Guy” producer Alex Carter, who will also act as showrunner. “A Terribly Nice Family” revolved around the Bundy family of Chicago — Al Bundy (Ed O’Neill), a misogynistic women’s shoe salesman, his lazy wife Peggy (Katey Sagal), and their children, Kelly (Applegate) and Bud (David Faustino). ).
