Christmas on Netflix: 3 movies to watch with the family on New Year’s Eve

How to occupy your children on New Year’s Eve while having a good time? If you are a Netflix subscriber, here are three different films that could delight young and old.

Goofy animated film: Homecoming (from 8 years old)

What is it about ?

Tired of being locked in a vivarium, exposed to the gaze of humans who see them as monsters, a motley group of some of Australia’s most dangerous animals prepare a daring plan to escape the zoo. Their goal, to reach the Outback where no one will judge them for their fangs and their scales.

Did you like Madagascar and Ice Age? Then Return to the Fold is for you! Cute animals, unlikely friendships, adventure, colors and the discovery of the Australian Outback, these are the ingredients of this animated film made in Netflix, which changes Christmas productions but which shares an essential message : the monster in the story is not who you think it is. A feature film which makes children understand that “wild animals” do not always rhyme with danger and which invites children to be wary of appearances.

The Christmas Musical: Jingle Jangle (ages 8 and up)

What is it about ?

Jeronicus Jangle is a great inventor and maker of toys, but he has lost all confidence in himself and his inventions. A second chance is offered to him; a new magical invention. His granddaughter is due to come see him during the Christmas holidays. Jeronicus will do everything to make his new creation work for the arrival of the latter.

We love this film! A Christmas musical, full of magic, enchanted music co-written by American singer John Legend, and an ode to the family that will do good at this rather gloomy end of the year. Jingle Jangle invites young and old to keep their child’s soul and their optimism. He calls to dream, to escape and to imagine a better world where everything is possible, like his sweet heroine who tells us “that we just have to believe”.

The classic revisited: The Grinch (ages 8 and up)

What is it about ?

Every year at Christmas, the Chous come to disturb the solitary tranquility of the Grinch with ever more grandiose, brilliant and noisy celebrations. When the Chous declare that they are going to celebrate Christmas three times as much this year, the Grinch realizes that he has only one solution left to find peace and quiet: he must steal Christmas.

The live action version with Jim Carrey is a Christmas staple so to change a bit and introduce this hilarious character to your whole family, we throw ourselves on this animated film released in 2018 and signed by the creators of The Minions. Your children will laugh in front of this grumpy character who hates Christmas and the various gags that punctuate the film. Parents, you will be touched by his benevolence and his final message, which is timely for New Year’s Eve!
