“Three hazelnuts for Cinderella” starts as a new edition on Amazon Prime Video. What can the fans expect?

A classic is given a modern look just in time for Christmas: Amazon Prime Video is showing a remake of “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” from this Monday (December 20th). Directed by Cecilie Mosli (48), the Norwegian production follows in the footsteps of the German-Czech cult film from 1973.

With the Norwegian pop singer Astrid Smeplass alias Astrid S (25) in the leading role of Cinderella and actor Cengiz Al (24) as the prince, the film focuses on imposing images from snow-covered landscapes. Viewers follow Cinderella’s journey through forests and into the mountains on her search for a way to escape her wicked stepmother (Ellen Dorrit Petersen, 46) and to find love. Already the trailer promises rapid rides, archery units, an extravagant ball with sweeping robes and magical moments.

In addition to the locations in the mountains of Norway, other scenes were shot in Lithuania. Smeplass, who learned horseback riding and archery for the role, makes her acting debut in the remake. In 2013, at the age of 16, the singer won the talent show “Pop Idol”, the Norwegian version of “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”.

The success story of the original

In 1975 the original was shown for the first time on West German television and then conquered the Christmas program year after year. The shooting took place around Moritzburg Castle near Dresden and in the backdrops of the Babelsberg film studios. Actually, the intention was to shoot in the summer, but the workload of the film team only allowed one winter shoot.

The story quickly turned into a winter fairytale story, but due to insufficient snowfall, artificial snow had to be used in some cases. In the original, Pavel Trávníček (71) embodies the prince, fans had to say goodbye to the Cinderella actress Libuše Šafránková this year. She died in June 2021 at the age of 68.

Then “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” can be seen on TV

If you don’t want to do without the original with its very own charm, you have the opportunity to see the classic from 1973 on TV again this year. Among other things, the film will be broadcast on Christmas Eve on Erste (12:10 p.m.), on NDR (4:05 p.m.) or on WDR (8:15 p.m.). Also on Christmas Day (ARD, 9:55 a.m.) and on Christmas Day (SWR, 4:35 p.m.) as well as on New Year’s Day (rbb, 2:30 p.m.) it will be like a fairytale.
