CINEMA: Disney announces and gives a first glimpse of Moana 2, an update on the calendar of upcoming theatrical releases

Following the presentation of its financial results, The Walt Disney Company in particular make the point on the feature films coming to theaters in 2024 and the coming years. While a film live-action Moana / Vaina by Dwayne Johnson was announced last April, it was with surprise thata simply named sequel Moana 2 invited herself to the calendar and was even treated to a fairly minimalist first preview. You won’t have to wait long before discovering this sequel to Vaiana: The Legend of the End of the Worldsince its theatrical release is set for November 27, 2024 in the United States.

This is what the president of Disney Bob Iger, who confirms in passing that this project was indeed originally the series which was to see the light of day in 2023.

Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise and we can’t wait to tell you more about Moana and Maui when Moana 2 hits theaters in November.

This was originally developed as a series, but we were impressed with what we saw and knew it deserved a theatrical release. The original 2016 film Moana recently surpassed 1 billion streaming hours on Disney+ and was the most streamed film of 2023 across all platforms in the United States.

At the moment we only know that the director is Dave Derrick Jr. and that the soundtrack was produced by Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina.

Moana 2, the epic animated musical from Walt Disney Animation Studios, takes audiences on an expansive new journey with Moana, Maui and an all-new crew of unlikely sailors.

After receiving an unexpected call from her ancestors, Moana must travel to the distant seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure like no other.

Apart from that, there will still be many cinema outings despite the delays caused by last year’s strikes. You can find the schedule for 2024 below, but also for the years to come. In the list we find the recently announced The Mandalorian & Grogu, directed and produced by Jon Favreau with Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni. This will be the next film Star Warsadding to the new projects revealed during the last Star Wars Celebration.

Note that all dates below are for the United States unless otherwise notedwith generally an exit two days before in France.
