Cinema quiz: can you recognize these nine dream scenes?

Nine images of dreams and nightmares in movies. Keep your eyes open to try to achieve the faultless.

Going to the movies can be considered a daydreaming experience for viewers. A two-hour parenthesis in a dark room, where we find ourselves immersed in a world of fiction, in a parallel reality…

And dreams have always had an important place in the history of cinema. Already in 1945, the surreal settings of Salvador Dali illustrated the psychoanalytical dreams of Gregory Peck in The House of Doctor Edwardes by Alfred Hitchcock. Akira Kurosawa with Kagemusha or Fellini in 8 ½ also offered us magnificent dreamlike scenes.

And in 2010, it was Christopher Nolan and his mysterious spinning top, who pushed the concept of dreams to its climax in Inception. A film with an impressive cast (Leonardo DiCaprio, Elliot Page, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Cillian Murphy), in which the characters get lost in strata of dreams, ending up doubting the reality they were living .

But it is above all the nightmares that have had the best part in the cinema and in particular of course in horror films. It’s Geena Davis who gives birth to a giant larva in David Cronenberg’s The Fly, Alison Lohman who finds herself face to face with the terrifying gypsy in Sam Raimi’s Down to Hell, or more recently the anxiety-provoking dreams of Florence Pugh which do not bode well in Ari Aster’s Midsommar.

Without forgetting of course, the most famous bogeyman, Freddy Krueger who haunted the dreams of many teenagers in the films of the Wes Craven series.
