Claude Puel, the coach of Saint-Etienne, laid off

Coach Claude Puel was fired by Saint-Etienne after the home defeat against Rennes (5-0), Agence France-Presse learned on Sunday December 5 from an internal source at the club, confirming information progress and by RMC.

The direction “Has taken the decision to withdraw from Claude Puel, until further notice, the management of the professional team”, wrote the club in a statement.

First coach dismissed this season

Claude Puel arrived in Saint-Etienne in October 2019, after the sidelining of Ghislain Printant. Under his leadership, the Greens finished 17e in 2020 and 11th in 2021 and played in the final of the Coupe de France 2020, lost 1-0 to PSG.

Always last in the French championship, the 60-year-old technician could not resist the third consecutive defeat of ASSE, the ninth of the season. He is the first coach to be sidelined this season.

Claude Puel received a letter of invitation to an interview with management on Monday, according to the same source. The “Greens” are also in great difficulty off the field. They have failed for several years in the search for a buyer, and the behavior of some of their supporters has led to sanctions at the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium. During the defeat against Rennes, the two stands behind the goal were closed.
