CO2 sensors in schools: multiple benefits beyond Covid-19

During a press conference in Marseille, Atmosud and the “L’air et moi” federation expressed their desire to support local authorities in developing CO2 sensors in schools, recalling their multiple benefits for the health of pupils. CO2 sensors make it possible to warn of too high a concentration of carbon dioxide in a room, and therefore of the need to ventilate the room, “a crucial issue when you know that there is no mechanical ventilation in most classes,” they insisted.

20% of schools equipped

Despite a state fund of 20 million euros made available to mayors to equip their schools with sensors, the Minister of Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer, admitted in early January that the deployment of these devices in schools was “totally insufficient”. “Today it is very low, only 20% of primary schools are equipped with sensors”, admitted Monday the deputy LREM Claire Pitollat.

“It’s a good initiative by the government to give 20 million euros to buy sensors, but a sensor alone is useless if you don’t learn how to use it”, also pleaded Victor Hugo Espinosa, creator of L’Air et Moi.
