Coat: This trick makes it a trendy unique item

So simple and so versatile: We'll tell you which trick you can use to transform your favorite autumn coat into a trendy one-off in next to no time.

Whether trench, parka or wool coat – our autumn look is only really complete with a coat. It goes without saying that we can't do without our favorite item in the cooler months! However, if you don't want to spend huge sums on a limited designer item, you usually go for an off-the-peg coat – and then you have a cool model, but also one that countless other fashion girls have.

It's not a big drama in itself, but we don't have to be content with it. It only takes two small steps and you have turned your new autumn favorite into a unique piece that is in no way inferior to the sinfully expensive designer parts.

The magic word for this is: buttons! Because let's be honest: The buttons, mostly made of plastic, which are standard on almost all coats, are everything, just not exactly an eye-catcher. So don't be afraid to snap off the boring 0815 locks and swap special buttons for a swing. Because nothing turns a coat into a unique wow item as quickly as a series of new buttons.

You can find real one-offs in second-hand shops

When looking for new buttons, however, a little patience is required. If you want to pimp your coat with classy vintage fasteners or cool horn parts, you will find it on Ebay or in second-hand shops. Even long-established tailoring shops usually have a huge selection of special one-off items. Or you can stop by your grandmother's – maybe she still has one or the other pair of buttons from bygone days in her drawer.

Admittedly, some sweets are not cheap. Original buttons from old uniforms or designer costumes in particular can often be more expensive than the entire coat. Here you have to weigh up whether it is worth it to you. But keep one thing in mind: Your coat is a one-off in the end and the valuable buttons can be used again and again, even after the coat is ready for the old clothes container.

Once you've found your new favorite buttons, all you have to do is sew it on – et volià, you have a coat that is not only absolutely unique, but also makes your look look much more expensive than it actually was. But be careful: In the heat of the moment, be sure to pay attention to the size of your chosen pieces. The best way to orientate yourself is to use the buttons that are still there, to which the button slots have been perfectly cut. After all, you want to be able to close your favorite coat after the armament campaign.

Create a new look with new buttons

It's so easy to create a completely new look with a swipe of new buttons. Brushed round buttons made of metal with an embossed coat of arms turn your wool coat into a military-style coat in no time at all. Braided leather buttons in saddle brown give your cape coat a very British touch, while large gold-colored buttons with colored glass or mother-of-pearl stones transform your boring oversized coat into a unique coat with elegant vintage charm.
