Cocotte: this electric bike is equipped with an automatic gearbox and made in France

Here is an electric bike for the less interesting, and French moreover! The “Cocotte” electric bike, that’s its name, has an automatic gearbox that manages, thanks to AI, automatic and intelligent gear changes.

During the VivaTech show, the WeShift association, a consortium of four Haute-Savoie industrialists (Savoy Group, M2O Group, Alpes Machining and Pracartis) presented an astonishing electric car, La Bagnole, but also a very interesting electric bicycle which should emulators among lovers of electrically assisted two-wheelers.

Indeed, the “Cocotte” bike (that’s its name) shifts gears on its own and, on top of that, it is smart since it can shift to the most suitable gear for the situation and the effort of the cyclist. This drivetrain is developed in-house and does away with the chain, belt and derailleur. This is, for example, what can be seen with Enviolo and its Enviolo AUTOMATiQ continuously variable automatic transmission.

The bike is available in 3 colors (blue, gray and black) and the panels on the sides of the frame are reflective and customizable. It weighs 20 kg and the battery weighs only 0.9 kg for a range of 70 km and a recharge from 0 to 80% which is carried out on a mains socket in just 2 hours.

Thanks to its frame shape, the Cocotte H3B is suitable for sizes from 1.65 to 1.90 m. The bike has four levels of assistance: No assistance, Eco, Comfort and Boost. Everything can be managed via a minimalist screen with the basic displays “to reduce the environmental impact of our product”. It is equipped with sensors, a GPS chip and multiple connectivity.

This bike is also a 95% local product, since the manufacturers seek to source from Haute-Savoie and the surrounding area, particularly in terms of the production of parts, including brakes and headlights. Interestingly, this electric bike has a light spectrum six times wider than market standards which allows it to be illuminated in full headlight, like a car.

Price and availability

The bike is available for pre-order and its price is 3,490 euros, excluding options and accessories. The first deliveries will be made in January 2023. To pre-order it, you will have to pay 490 euros, directly from the Cocotte site.
