Committees confirm ban: Trump remains blocked on Facebook

Committees confirm the ban
Trump remains banned from Facebook

After Twitter permanently blocked the account of the former US president, Facebook followed suit. An independent body confirms the ban, but demands a re-examination in six months.

Ex-President Donald Trump remains blocked on Facebook. At the same time, Facebook’s independent oversight board asked the online network to re-examine the matter within six months. The decision of the independent body, which includes lawyers, civil rights experts and journalists, is binding for the group according to its own guidelines.

The elected president was banned from Facebook after the violent storming of the Capitol on January 6th. Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg explained at the time that Trump had used the online service to “instigate a violent uprising against a democratically elected government.” Twitter – until then Trump’s most important online mouthpiece – permanently blocked the then president’s account.
