Confession made – Marchfeld murder mystery solved: It was about money

Big impact in the case of the dismembered corpse in Vienna. A compatriot of the Iranian victim has now been arrested – and confessed to the crime.

It took officers from the criminal investigation department just under two weeks until they were able to put together the puzzle surrounding the dismembered body from Vienna’s Marchfeld Canal. The case was initially puzzling, starting with a scary fishing trip – the events in fast forward: In mid-January, on a quiet Saturday afternoon, an experienced Petri disciple decided to try his luck in the Schwarzlackenau in the Floridsdorf district the man pulled a severed and badly decomposed lower leg out of the water. The victim was a 45-year-old Iranian man who was reported missing by his ex-wife in November. The investigation later expanded to include the victim’s private and professional environment. They now came to a successful end in the Lower Austrian district of Mistelbach, north of the federal capital. The deal fell through on Monday afternoon when the handcuffs clicked for a 38-year-old compatriot of the man who was killed. The alleged perpetrator is said to be a partner of Peyman N.. This was in the murder investigators’ sights from the start. According to reports, the two wanted to set up a moving company and the suspect is said to have invested around 50,000 euros in the company. But success was not forthcoming and the deal fell through. When the investor wanted his share back, a dispute probably arose. The motive for the murder seems clear – once again it was about money.Suspect confesses and remains silentAfter his arrest, the 38-year-old was interrogated for hours by investigators from the State Criminal Police Office. They were ultimately able to get a confession out of him. The Iranian admitted that he had killed and dismembered his compatriot and business partner. However, he did not want to reveal any other details. And the man also decided not to have his own lawyer for the time being.
