If you take an old Game Boy out of the drawer and start a game, the screen without backlighting quickly becomes negatively noticeable these days. It is difficult to see what is happening on the screen when the lighting conditions are not optimal.

However, that doesn’t mean you should sell your retro console. Thanks to the GB Interceptor gadget, you can connect the Game Boy to a computer or an iPad using a USB-C cable. X user Sebastian Staacks also confirms in a video that the latter works from iPadOS17. There is a tennis game playing on the iPad Pro.

On the tablet, the advantage of the backlight comes into its own, especially in the clip. Although there is supposed to be an input delay, most Game Boy owners probably play a game casually every now and then. It is questionable whether lag has a significant impact here. There is also the option to easily record gameplay on the iPad.

There are apparently different gadgets circulating on the internet that bear the name “GB Interceptor”. It is not clear which version works how well, but there is a model on Amazon for prices starting at 44 euros. Maybe you want to try it out. If you don’t like it, you can send it back.

Alternatively, there is a new handheld that glows in the dark and also plays original Game Boy modules.
