This worries many parents: At the start of school, of all places, the cycle path in Klagenfurt’s Viktring district is closed due to construction work; their children have to drive on the road. “The canal works will be finished by Friday, and the cycle path should be open again from Monday,” promises Daniel Domenig from the building authority.
Almost 2000 pupils attend the secondary school, middle school and elementary school branches in Viktring, many of them use the cycle path. This is currently blocked from Keutschacher Straße.
Schoolchildren have to cross a busy street
“The students have to use the sidewalk next to the busy street with several crossings. Many families prefer Viktring precisely because of the safe bike path to the school as the center of their living, ”writes one student. “The cycle path can be used again from Monday,” explains Daniel Domenig. “In this area, sewer construction work was necessary, which began years ago.
